What Does A Good ECU Remap Do?
A good Stage 1 ECU remap, or a remap which does not rely on other modified or tuned parts, is focused on optimising your car’s potential within the safe and legal limits of the ECU.
Most cars play it safe with their engine maps, to allow them to support different blends and qualities of uel, meet varying regulations when it comes to car emissions, and to ensure reliability across a range of harsh conditions that can affect air and fuel quality.
Most people do not drive in such harsh conditions, and so a Stage 1 remap can offer better acceleration, improved throttle response, slightly improved top speeds, greater fuel economy or a combination of the above depending on the car and ECU in question.
What Does A Bad ECU Remap Do?
A bad Stage 1 ECU remap is the result of not following best practices when mapping the car, leading to highly avoidable faults.
Whilst not an exhaustive list, here are some common traits of a bad remap:
- It pushes an already damaged car beyond its limits.
- It is unsuitable for the particular model, engine or configuration.
- It pushes the engine, turbocharger and fuel injection beyond safe limits.
- It skips the diagnostic stage to ensure the car is healthy and ready to remap.
